TPC Harding Park Golf is one of about 30 golf courses selected for the Tournament Players Club by the PGA tour. Approximately half of those courses are public, and this is one of them. This course was home to several prestigious tournaments including the 2009 President Club and the 2020 PGA Championship.
TPC Harding Park Golf is directly across the lake from the private Olympic Club and the private San Francisco Golf Club. The Monterey cypress trees on this course are just as majestic as at the Olympic Club and Poppy Hills and overshadow those at Torrey Pines.
When I played the course, it was in excellent condition. The fairways were immaculate. Sometimes it felt like I was hitting off a putting green surface. The 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th are along the lake so you can’t hit left.
The 480-yard 18th requires you to hit over the water. I just clip the water and the gully, but the pros go over the lake and try to clear the giant cypress trees on the far side. I remember being at the World Golf Championship in 2005 when Tiger went for it on the 18th and cleared the water and the trees. The fans went wild! John Daly hit second and not only cleared the water and the trees but out drove Tiger by 15 yards.
Great course. Harding Park prices range from around $95 to $125 depending on local residency in the area. Out of the area? Figure $180-$250.
