Authors Comments:
Stanford Stadium is home to the Stanford University football team. In its heyday they could host more than 90,000 spectators and also hosted track and field events. They have since removed the track and rebuilt the stadium. The capacity is now about 50,000.
There is more than ample parking surrounding the stadium. All the parking and tailgating is in a giant eucalyptus forest on hard packed dirt. Some of the tailgate parties just outside the Stanford Stadium have been going with the same people and at the same locations for over 60 years.
Stanford Stadium hosted the 1985 Super Bowl, one of only two stadiums that were not an NFL or AFC stadium. The only other being the Rose Bowl or “Spieker Field” in Pasadena. Stanford also hosted the 1984 Summer Olympics, 1994 FIFA Men’s World Cup, and the 1999 Women’s FIFA World Cup. There are many popular restaurants, lodging, and the Stanford Memorial Church nearby.
