Authors Comments:
The main attraction at Stanford University is Stanford Memorial Church, a must see. The Chapel took five years to build and was completed in 1903. The exterior and especially the interior are spectacular sites to behold.
The Stanford Memorial Church is Romanesque Revival in form and Byzantine in its details. Note the carvings on the ornate stone arches inside the church, the Baroque style organ with 4,422 pipes, and the ornate stain glass windows.
There are many beautiful frescos including the fresco of The Last Supper that has been replicated with permission from Pope Leo XIII. The church is over 100 years old and is non-denominational. If you are lucky and meet the “Stanford” criteria you are allowed to be married in this one-of-a-kind cathedral. Figure about $4,000 for the two allotted hours, but a memory of a lifetime.
