San Gregorio Store is about 45 minutes west of Woodside Village where Highway 84 meets the Pacifica Ocean. It may look like a sleepy general store but once you enter you will be absorbed by their merchandise.
Country style blue cookware, Pendleton shirts, cowboy hats, handmade soaps, wool blankets, Grateful Dead t-shirts, and philosophical books. This place is a combination of Haight Asbury and the wild west. It’s only one mile from the beautiful San Mateo coastline which should be included in your visit.
The patrons at the store are mostly locals and you are made to feel right at home with their country hospitality. In the winter they fire up the potbelly stove. Although San Gregorio Store is small, it can take up to an hour to peruse all the unique merchandise.
I have been dropping by the store for over 50 years and it’s always a gratification and reassurance that the world, at least in San Gregorio, is a welcoming and peaceful place. It’s one of my favorite attractions.
