San Francisco Bay Trail is a project to circumvent the San Francisco Bay with hiking and biking trails. Of the 500 projected miles of trail, about 300 miles are completed. The trails are either paved or are maintained gravel trails and roads.
There is an abundance of marsh and seabirds, many species you will only see in the wetlands. There is an interactive map on their website maintained by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The goal is to include 47 cities and seven bridges.
My favorite trails are the Alviso Slough Trail and the Adobe Creek Trail. Both trails get you far out into the San Francisco Bay, especially the Alviso Slough Trail. I recommend a bicycle for both. Remember you are surrounded by water on both trails and should carry a jacket, even on a sunny day. Bring food and water when on the San Francisco Bay Trail, as there are no services out in the wetlands.
Nearby trail will take you to Shoreline Amphitheater and Twin Creeks Baseball complex.
