Monterey Fisherman’s Wharf is like no other on the west coast. You feel like you are in an old fashion colorful fishing village, sprinkled with great seafood restaurants, candy stores, and gift shops. This attraction still has the look and feel of the old-time wharf.
My favorite time to visit Monterey Fisherman’s Wharf is before all the restaurants and shops are open. It is so quiet and peaceful with the soft sound of the sea gulls, sea lions, and seals off in the distance. Merchants are hosing off the boardwalk, bringing in supplies by hand trucks, and getting ready for the day.
Find yourself a cup of coffee and check it out before hours. When the wharf finally opens it’s a festival of people exploring the shops in a leisurely way that you do not see in San Francisco. Monterey Fisherman’s Wharf is a way of life for those who work there.
Bike and kayak rentals are available nearby. A great way to start your day, or finish it off with dinner at a window seat overlooking the boat harbor. Fresh fish, sourdough clam chowder bowls, shrimp appetizers, and end of the day cocktails are plentiful. Be sure to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium during your stay.
