Levi Stadium, in Santa Clara, was completed in 2014 with much excitement from those of us living 30 miles south of the old San Francisco stadium site. I had a chance to visit the stadium several times during construct and it was quite a monumental project.
However, it’s new location has created a much longer commute for those living in San Francisco. Levi Stadium is the home to the San Francisco 49ers, although it is located 13 cities away from San Francisco.
The weather is better in Santa Clara and there is significantly less wind. Some of the famous 49er players are Joe Montana (famous for “The Catch”), Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Ronnie Lott, Dwight Clark, John Brodie, Y.A Tittle, and Brett Jones.
The San Francisco 49er’s have won five Super Bowls, 16 conference championships, and 58 playoffs. In addition to 49er games, the stadium has hosted world cup FIFA soccer, Wrestle Mania, profession ice hockey, and music concerts. Concerts have included the Grateful Dead, Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift, and The Rolling Stones.
They also hosted the 50th Super Bowl. Levi stadium has a 49er history museum as well as an art gallery, and they have received several awards for sustainability which is now the norm for Silicon Valley. Levi Strauss bought the naming rights to the stadium for around 220 million. Levi Stadium is immediately adjacent to Great America amusement park.
