Japantown is a unique cultural gem in the city of San Jose. Its Japanese name is “Nihonmachi” and it is only one of three remaining authentic Japanese towns in the United States. There are several very good Japanese restaurants all within a few blocks.
You can find specialty gifts, clothing, one-of-a-kind items from Japan, a ukulele shop, a tofu factory, and a Japanese grocery store. There is an authentic Japanese sweetshop where you can by delicacies such as Manja. Japantown also has a Buddhist temple and the Japanese American Museum.
At 6th and Jackson Street you will find the Japantown Mural Project displaying the art of 50 local artist. Just a short drive away is the Japanese Friendship Garden at Kelly Park.
