For me, the true essence of Frost Amphitheater are the memories from the late 60’s and early 70’s. We called it the “Age of Aquarius”. It was an era when easy going people wore bell bottom pants and huarache sandals with car tire soles.
Frost Amphitheater has always been a gradual bowl shape with a terraced lawn, making it ideal for blankets. It has recently been renovated making it a first-class outdoor music venue with more bathrooms, concessions, and dressing rooms rather than tents for the performers.
It is like an oasis on a college campus. Joan Baez helped make this venue famous with her Vietnam War protest concerts. Other performers where the Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Eric Clapton, The Band, Louis Armstrong, Sly & the Family Stone, and Lionel Richie. This is a peaceful and friendly venue and still has the aura of the early days of the flower children and the easy-going Palo Alto culture.
