Cooper Garrod Winery. The Cooper and Garrod winemaking fate was set when George Cooper married Louise Garrod. The Garrod Farm was a favorite attraction when I was a child and I have enjoyed watching the five generations sustainably manage the land and contribute to the community.
Vickie Garrod and I have been high school classmates for over 50 years and she has hosted several memorable high school class reunions at the Winery. Great venue. Bill Cooper, also a high school classmate, is now the winemaker. The eldest Garrod son, Jan, is the General Manager and oversees the vineyard and ranch operations. Bill ‘s wife, Doris, does the marketing and now Jan’s son Trevor and niece Cory also work with the winery.
Early cuttings of their Cabernet Sauvignon, taken by Martin Ray, are from the original Paul Mason Vineyard just one hillside away. Their varietals feature the Cooper-Garrod label while their blends are under the “Test Pilot” label. Each blend is named for an airplane that the original winemaker, George Cooper, flew as a test pilot for NASA. The Cooper Garrod Winery is located at the original western setting of the farm.
