I first visited the Children’s Discovery Museum just after they opened when my children were 2 and 5, in 1992. There are activities for older children but most of them are geared toward ages 1-8. This is a clean and well managed facility, and the employees and volunteers are very kind and devoted to your child.
If you check their website, you can find times when there are interactive projects and special activities. Parking was once free but figure on paying around $7. Also, the entry fee is about $15 per person over one year old.
If your child can walk, strollers must be left outside, so bring a tote bag for all your stuff. There is plenty to learn at this attraction. The water area is popular and lots of fun, but you may want to bring a change of clothes from splashing.
The Children’s Discovery Museum also has many science-based activities. Reservations are required to keep the crowds down and hours are limited. Check their website for activities in the “Learn and Create” section and Calendar tab on top. They also have programs for teachers and class field trips.
A short drive away is the Happy Hollow Park and Zoo which is also geared toward smaller children.
