Carmel by the Sea

Enough can’t be said about the enchanting village of Carmel by the Sea. I have visited this town countless times over the past 65 years and it is always a cherished fascination. The word “Village” is used in the absolute true meaning…it’s like “Europe in California”.

Carmel by the Sea is known for artists and deep thinkers, poets and painters, photographers and authors. It is a “dog friendly” town with water dishes often found outside the stores. Doris Day’s Dog Friendly Hotel the Cypress Inn is known to give your dog more attention than the human guest.

I recommend at least two days just to enjoy walking between shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Don’t forget to walk to the bottom of “Ocean Avenue”. From there, turn left on “Scenic Drive” to view the expensive beachfront homes. Turn back to the Village at the Clinton Walker, “Frank Lloyd Wright House”. It will be the house on the rocky bluff that everyone would like to make their own.

While back in the Village, be sure to venture north of Ocean Avenue a few blocks, as there are more galleries and shops to see. Carmel is another absolute must attraction while you visit Silicon Valley. This is a casual but stylish town built on a gradual hill. Wear walking shoes. Extreme high heels are actually illegal in this town, but dogs are very welcome as long as they don’t wear high heels.
