I remember riding the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad when I was a toddler. Back then the railroad was at the home of Billy Jones in Los Gatos and Billy Jones was the engineer. It was an impressive little steam engine. Billy Jones passed away when I was a junior in high school.
Since then, the railroad has been moved to the nearby Oak Meadow Park. This is a great attraction for young children and train enthusiasts. Over the years, volunteers have added four more trains to the collection.
Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad is open for limited hours on Saturday and Sunday year-round and from mid-June to mid-August they are open seven days a week. Next to the railroad is the 1915 W.E. “Bill” Mason Carousel, one of the few operating carousels in the country. The carousel is constantly being restored and repainted by local artists and is in excellent condition. Both the railroad and the carousel are about $3 each. There is also a T-33A jet in the nearby playground to climb on.
If you want to introduce your children to a safe park in the redwoods and Douglass fir forest, I recommend Sanborn County Park in Saratoga.
