The Lace Museum

Do not take this museum lightly. If you think you know about everything you don’t. The lace Museum is fascinating even if you know nothing about lace. If you have any lace from ancestors, it’s time to learn. Lace has been dated back to the mid 1500’s. The Lace Museum has terrific in-person and online classes, as well as exhibits. They have over 20 expert instructors. Students from all over the world take their on-line classes. Lace is made from silk, cotton, and some wool. Occasionally you might see tape lace made from horsehair. You can learn about lace and textile clothing from the Netherlands, Berlin, Afghanistan, or the Congo. From hand crocheted lace to machine lace. Learn about Bazzilla lace, Venetian lace, Beveren lace, Airy lace, Bobbin lace, Chantilly lace, and Needle lace. Needle lace is made from one thread. Lace artists have their very own vocabulary. For example, what is gimp, picot, bobs, ground, filling, shuttle, bucks point, and tatting? If you have anything lace from doilies to clothing, they can help you learn about it. I purchased one of their beautiful hand-woven bookmarks while I was there.
