Both the Blue and Gold fleet from the Fisherman’s Wharf area and the Golden Gate Ferry service from the Ferry Building go to Sausalito and Tiburon. The Blue and Gold fleet also offers a Bay Cruise and the Golden Gate Ferry also services Angel Island, and Larkspur. Ferry Building Parking is a little trickier and I recommend using share-ride. All these boat services provide spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, a sight that can’t be experience unless you are on the water. Tiburon is a small town with a few very nice restaurants and lodging choices. Sausalito has much more to do and has a much greater selection of dining and lodging. Some restaurants are right on the water. I enjoy walking out to the docks and looking at the yachts and historic houseboats, as well as strolling through the dry-dock shipyard. Please visit the houseboats from a distance as you are literal on their front porches when you walk by. There are plenty of interesting shops and boutiques throughout the downtown village of Sausalito. Although you can drive to Sausalito, the boat ride and the views to and from San Francisco are at the top of my attraction list. The boats are large and have enclosed cabins if it is cold out. You will see the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and an unobstructed view of the San Francisco skyline. It gives you a well-defined perspective of how the “City by the Bay” is laid out on the hills.
